Sunday 18th September saw the inaugural Strider British Downhill Event and the kids absolutely nailed it!
40 little rippers dropped into the finish of the British Mountain Bike Downhill course at Llangollen. Striding down a purposely built slalom course on the finishing slope, cheered on by big crowds, all the kids rode like the stars they are.
We all had a quick practice in the morning with as many runs they could squeeze into half an hour before the big one; a single ride in front of loud crowds, loads of noise and they just rode and they were quick. The beams and grins when they crossed the line was fantastic to watch!
If you wonder what it is like to be a 3 year old Strider race then check out Casey's ride.
If it wasn't inspiring enough to watch the worlds top riders and youngsters aged 13 years fly down a hillside, they met professional mountain biker, the legend that is Steve Peak.
Steve very kindly gave the trophies out to the Striders, the youngest of which had just turned 2 a few days before the race. Probably the first time he has ever had to lift a rider onto a podium and what an inspiration for the little ones.
So the all important final results are:
Thanks to all at the British Downhill Series for making it a great weekend of camping, balloons, racing and some inspirational racing to watch.
Another cheer for Chris from www.actionsportstiming.co.uk for setting up the timings for the Strider racing.
Look out for the pictures coming soon..
