Today 21/03/15 is World Downs Syndrome Day #WDSD15. Half of this community have never been able to experience that joy of getting on your bike and the feeling of independance from setting off on a cycling trip.
Lets change that! With the 16" Sport balance bike and the 20" Adults Balance Bike we can spread the joy that two wheels brings to so many, as all abilities can ride them. At Strider we are keen to ensure that our special needs bikes bring as much joy as possible
The bikes have no pedals. There is nothing to confuse or get in the way and so people can simply stand over the bike and with both feet flat on the floor start by walking it along. Then as confidence grows, speed increases and before long both feet are getting lifted and for longer periods of time the feet get tucked in on the footrest and then they coast. Balance gradually improves.
Adults can ride our STRIDER special needs bikes
Strider UK sell the 16" bike (stand over height 49.5cm to 65cm) and the 20" for adults with the saddle adjusting between 67cm and 82cm. Both are light, strong and at first glance look just like a normal bike which is important to help build confidence. Before long everyone wants a go! Strider Bikes looks similar too to everyone elses so they avoid the stares assoicated with other special needs bikes
